Historical Events

Discovery by Europeans:

In 1541, Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca was the first European to see the falls, naming them "Saltos de Santa María."

Creation of Iguaçu National Park:

Established in 1939, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986, protecting diverse ecosystems and wildlife.

Friendship Bridge Opening:

Opened in 1965, connecting Brazil and Paraguay, boosting trade and tourism in the region.
